Introduce the fundamental basic notions of calculating probabilities and descriptive statistics with one variable.
Recommended prior knowledge: Basic mathematics.
Assessment method: Examination (60%), continuous assessment (40%)

Chapter 01 Basic concept and statistical vocabulary.
The aim of this chapter is to give the basic notions of descriptive statistics with one variable (one dimension). The some key terms of the descriptive statistics are the following :
- Population and sample,
- Population size is noted N and sample size is noted n,
- Element,
- Statistical variable (or character),
- Data set and statistical table ( frequency table),
- Types of variable or data (quantitative or qualitative),
- Frequency ,
- Relative frequency,
- Increasing cumulative frequency : ICR,
- Increasing cumulative relative frequency : ICRF.
