    Objectives of teaching
    Understand and learn to effectively use geographical and environment terms in English and become more familiar with using English language in the field of geography and planning.

    Recommended prerequisites

    Basic reading and oral communication, grammar, vocabulary building, listening and speaking. Reading of simple scientific texts, their analysis, comprehension of the main idea and a basic ability to communicate and exchange information in a simple way.

    Subject content
    Introduction: Understanding basic geography concepts in English
    Speaking : logical development of ideas, participation in a discussion presentation, dialogue, interview, discussions, interpretation, assessment and generalization on the speciality topics.
    Listening: to authentic/simulated texts (presentations, lectures, academic discussions, conversations) of average complexity on speciality topics. Types of texts: practical guidelines and instructions, descriptions of a process, an interview, a conversation.
    Language in use: forming and expanding professional / speciality vocabulary on the basis of the topics discussed, learning to use grammatical structures typical of scientific texts in all language skills: tenses of the verbs, active/passive voices, order of adjectives, nominal adjectives,adverbs.


    Topics to be studied :  Population, Destruction and conservation of the rainforests, Biodiversity and Genetic Resources, Ozone layer and the Greenhouse effect, Air Water and Soil pollution, Non-renewable energy resources, Urban expansion, Industrial pollution and waste disposal, traffic, Poverty and environmental damage,  Sustainable development.

     COURSE MAP 

    This field encompasses the study of the Earth's surface, its physical features, and human activities, as well as the organization and development of human settlements and land use patterns. It involves analyzing spatial relationships, environmental factors, and socio-economic dynamics to inform policies and strategies for sustainable development and resource management.

    Structured 13-weeks course plan for teaching English to students learning geography and territorial planning. Throughout the course, we incorporate interactive activities, discussions, and real-world examples to reinforce language learning and application in the field of geography and territorial planning. We provide opportunities for students to practice speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in English.

    Week 1-2: Introduction to English for Geography and Territorial Planning

    ·                 Session 1: Course Introduction and Overview

    ·       Introduce the course objectives and expectations, 

    ·       Discuss the importance of English proficiency in the fields of geography and territorial planning,  and test in English,

    ·                 Session 2: Basic English Grammar and Vocabulary,

    ·       Review basic English grammar concepts (parts of speech, sentence structure).

    ·       Introduce vocabulary related to geography, territorial planning, and land use.

    Week 3-4: Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Mapping

    ·                 Session 3: Introduction to GIS Terminology

    ·       Teach vocabulary related to geographic information systems (GIS).

    ·       Explain key concepts such as layers, attributes, and spatial analysis.

    ·                 Session 4: Reading and Interpreting Maps

    ·       Practice reading and interpreting different types of maps.

    ·       Discuss map symbols, scales, and legends.

    Week 5-6: Physical Geography and Environmental Studies

    ·                 Session 5: Vocabulary for Physical Geography

    ·       Introduce vocabulary related to physical geography (landforms, climate, biomes).

        Objectives

        Overall, this course enhance the Writing Skills of students. Studying these tenses equips students with the necessary language tools to analyze, describe, and communicate any phenomena across various temporal dimensions. Again, learning to use these tenses effectively improves students' ability to write coherent and accurate reports, essays, and analyses in geography, incorporating past, present, and future perspectives Understanding the usage of different tenses allows students to interpret information accurately within its temporal context. Proficiency in the simple past tense enables students to analyze historical events, changes, and developments in geographic contexts. Mastery of the simple present and present continuous tenses enables students to describe ongoing trends, and phenomena.

        Objectives:

        By filling the gaps with appropriate tenses, students reinforce their understanding of the past simple, present simple, present perfect, and present continuous tenses in context. This activity helps them apply grammar rules related to each tense in using each one accurately within specific contexts. This exercise enhances Reading and Writing Skills and enabling them to express ideas more accurately and coherently. The aim is also to prepare the student for Real-Life Communication
