Course Presentation

The ESP module for the first year Master students is designed to provide them with a comprehensive exploration of ESP course design. This course serves as an introduction to the key principles and processes involved in creating an effective ESP course tailored to the needs of specific learners. Throughout academic year, students will engage with the theoretical underpinnings of course design and apply practical approaches to design ESP courses that align with the demands of various professional and academic fields.

Course Objectives:

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Understand the fundamental concepts of ESP, syllabus, and curriculum design.
  2. Differentiate between various types of syllabi and determine their suitability for ESP contexts.
  3. Identify and analyse the factors that influence ESP course design.
  4. Apply different approaches and steps in the design of an ESP course.
  5. Conduct a thorough needs analysis to inform course design.
  6. Select and produce relevant and effective ESP materials, including the use of authentic resources.
  7. Evaluate the effectiveness of ESP materials and teaching methodologies.
  8. Understand and apply appropriate evaluation and testing methods in ESP contexts.

Assessment:

Students will be assessed based on their participation in classwork, a test  and a final exam that will test their understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of ESP course design.
