The course is divided into two main parts. Part one is overview of language teaching approaches and methods and. It consists of a historical overview of TEFL, traditional approaches and methodologies . (the GTM, the reform movement , the DM, the ALM, SLT, CLT), contemporary teaching approaches (TBLT, CBLT) , the humanistic approaches and the eclectic method. Part two is devoted to teaching the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) and language systems (vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation)
Objectives
Students are expected to develop an awareness of the underlying principles of the different language teaching approaches and methods. They are also expected to develop an awareness of what makes a language skill and system and how each language skill and system is taught effectively.
