    Description of the Course

This course provides an overview of the fundamental knowledge required for the research methodology process. It introduces research in the field of education and covers a range of conceptual and methodological aspects essential for successfully conducting research. The primary focus is on enhancing understanding of the rationale behind educational research and developing key research skills.

    Course Prerequisites

Prior to taking this course, students must possess some knowledge of science and research, as well as the methodological skills acquired in previous years in the 'TTU' module.

    Teaching Materials

Links, videos, PDF files, and PPT presentations.

    Evaluation

Students' knowledge and understanding of the course are evaluated at the end of each teaching unit through individual or small group work.

  • Lecture 1

    Introduction to Research

    Lesson Description

This lesson introduces the concept of 'research,' including its aims, characteristics, and process. It also highlights educational research and its objectives.

    Lesson Objectives

    • To help students develop an understanding of research in general and educational research in particular
    • To enable students to comprehend the scientific approach to research and identify its limitations in the social sciences
    •  To raise students' awareness of the main steps involved in conducting scientific research

  • Lecture 2

    Research Problem

    Lesson Description

This lesson focuses on introducing the research problem. It explores the sources for generating research problems in the field of education, the necessary steps for identifying a problem, and the various criteria for evaluating a research problem.

    Lesson Objectives

    • To develop students' understanding of the nature of a research problem
    • To raise students' awareness of the various sources for identifying a research problem
    • To enable students to synthesize a clear research problem statement
    • To equip students with the skills to evaluate the quality of a research problem based on specific criteria

  • Lecture 3

    Research Questions, Aims, and Significance

    Lesson Description

This lesson introduces the key elements of research, specifically research questions, aims, and significance. It focuses on the characteristics of each element and how they are presented in actual research.

    Lesson Objectives

    • To develop students' understanding of the differences and relationships between research questions, aims, and significance
    • To enable students to synthesize research questions, aims, and significance
    • To equip students with the skills to evaluate the research questions, aims, and significance in samples of existing research

  • Lecture 4

    Research Approaches and Designs

    Lesson Description

This lesson provides an overview of the three main approaches to research: quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods. It also highlights the primary research designs associated with each approach.

    Lesson Objectives

    • To enable students to differentiate between qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research
    • To help students identify the main research designs and their focus within each research approach
