World Health Organization (WHO) Definition:

"Trauma is physical damage caused to a person when their body has been suddenly or briefly subjected to a level of energy (mechanical, thermal, chemical, or radiation) that exceeds the physiological tolerance threshold. It can manifest as a bodily injury resulting from exposure to excess energy, or as a functional impairment resulting from the deprivation of one or more vital elements (such as oxygen or heat), as seen in cases of drowning, strangulation, or freezing.
