إن مطبوعة "تاريخ الجزائر الحديث بين القرنين الـ 16-19م" موجّهة إلى طلبة السنة الثانية تاريخ عام، حيث تعالج الأوضاع السياسية والاجتماعية والاقتصادية والثقافية في الجزائر العثمانية، ذلك أن تاريخ المنطقة قد شهد تقلبات سياسية وثورات اجتماعية جعلت الجزائر دوما على نار متأججة طيلة ثلاثة قرون كاملة حيث لم تكن تنتهي ثورة حتى تقوم أخرى، ولا ينصّب داي إلاّ وقد قتل الذي قبله أو عزل، حتى أن الداي الذي يموت موتة طبيعية "يُصبح قبره مزارا للتبرّك"، ويذكر هابنسترايت أنّه "شهد مقتل ستة دايات في يوم واحد".
وهكذا فإنّ كثرة الأحداث واتصالها ببعضها البعض قد جعلني أقبل على اتباع سبيل الاختصار في إنجاز هذه المطبوعة، ذلك أن كثرة المواضيع المطروحة جعلت من المستحيل إنجاز عمل أكاديمي يشمل جميع التاريخ الجزائري خلال العهد العثماني؛ خاصّة وأنّه موجه لطلبة في بداية مسارهم التاريخي.السداسي:

It was said that a Dey who died a natural death would have his grave become a site of veneration. Hebenstreit noted witnessing the killing of six Deys in one day.
