     Course Objectives

    This course introduces you to the study of discourse. It aims to bring into the light the major concepts in discourse analysis to help students understand the relationship between discourse and the social world.

    By the end of this course, you must be able to:

    ·      Describe how the spoken and written discourse are structured;

    ·      Describe how humans use of spoken and written discourse enact power;

    ·      Discuss how language particularly relates to culture, gender, racism and conflict;

    ·      Explain how discourse relates with other disciplines, such as education, media, medicine and politics;
