Objectives of the Course:
The main aim of the course is to equip students with basic knowledge regarding the theory and practice of teaching English to speakers of others languages as well as current trends in the area. Since the course is devoted to master's students majoring in literature and civilization with only common knowledge in TEFL, it particularly aims at:
- Clarifying the concepts of approach, method and technique.
- Reviewing the main approaches/methods with focus on their implications and use in today's practice.
- Clarifying the relationship between TEFL and other influential disciplines.
- Debating the practice of English today in terms of priorities and teaching methodologies.
- Reviewing the teaching of language skills.
- Analyzing the aspects involved in teaching: the lesson, the syllabus, the task, materials, assessment and testing, etc.
Prerequisites:
General knowledge about the historical development of the theory and practice of TEFL and the most common teaching methods and approaches (TEFL, 3rd year)
Presentation of the Course:
The course is a combination of the lectures presented by the teacher and students' own contribution through classroom presentations and homework assignments. The content of the course may slightly change as other aspects could be integrated depending on students' needs and the issues they bring in the discussion.
