The course is designed for first year students Master of Literature and Civilization at the Department of English.This course deals with modern literary criticism beginning with Bakhtinian School, Russian Formalism, New criticism and covers psychoanalytic and archetypal literary criticism. It aims to investigate the basic principles of modern critical schools and the degree of their connection with the process of study, the analysis and the criticism of literary texts of all kinds (Novels, short stories, plays and poems). In doing so, students will get access to the different methods and approaches to literature to elevate their ability to interpreting, appreciating, and analyzing literary works. The course then is meant to familiarize the students with the completely new outlook that the twentieth century theoretical orientations bring about and to create an awareness of the array of schools of thought that define contemporary theoretical scene.
