Chromatography has experienced tremendous growth since its discovery in the early 1900s, both in the number of scientific publications and in the number of scientists who use it. This is largely due to the introduction of a relatively new technique called  high pressure liquid chromatography  (HPLC) which offers major improvements over the old column chromatography. As a result, the total number of chromatographic applications has steadily increased. The  HPLC  also offers some advantages over recently introduced techniques such as  chromatography supercritical liquid phasecapillary electrophoresis  and Electrokinetic chromatography  presented. The demand and growth of these new chromatographic techniques arises from the need to analyze a variety of complex samples to solve many scientific problems. Indeed, this demand is driven by the perpetual need to improve the speed of analysis in order to save time and money.
